Minor Requirements

A total of 21 units from the following courses are required:

Check the University Catalog for prerequisite requirements. Almost all courses below have prerequisites.

Lower Division Requirements (9 units)

PSY 101 Introductory Psychology (3)
PSY 201 Introduction to Statistics in Psychology (3)*
PSY 202 Research Methods (3)**

Upper Division Requirements (6 units)

One of the following courses (3)
PSY 302 Learning and Memory
PSY 303 Sensation and Perception
PSY 304 Comparative Animal Behavior
PSY 305 Information Processing
PSY 306 Biopsychology

One of the following courses (3)
PSY 331 Personality
PSY 341 Abnormal Psychology
PSY 351 Social Psychology
PSY 361 Developmental Psychology

Upper Division Electives (6 units)

Take 6 units of upper-division psychology electives.

 

*Students who substitute for Psych 201 (CSUF SOCI 303, HESC/KNES 349, ISDS 361B, MATH 338 or another course approved by the department) will then need to take an additional 3 units of upper-division electives in psychology.

 

*Students who substitute for Psych 202 (CSUF CAS 301, Math 337, or another course approved by the department) will then need take an additional 3 units of upper division electives in psychology.

 

If substituting both Psyc 201 and Psyc 202 you will need a total of 12 units of psychology electives. 

 

Special Requirements

  • Each course counted toward the minor must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher (overall GPA in Psych must be 2.0 or higher).
  • A maximum of 9 units of lower division courses may be transferred toward the minor (Psych 101, 201, 202)
  • A minimum of 12 units counted toward the minor must have been completed in Psychology at CSUF.
  • No more than three units of Psych 499 (Independent Research) may be applied toward the minor. Psych 494 (Teaching of Psychology) may not be used toward the minor but three units of this course may be counted toward units to graduate from the university.
